ONLINE & SOFTWARE WORK

  1. [2016] I am Language Manager of the Setswana Oxford Living Dictionary found here: https://tn.oxforddictionaries.com. The dictionary is based on my Oxford English-Setswana Setswana-English School dictionary. The online dictionary was launched on May 12th, 2016.
  2. [2015] With a team of volunteers we developed a list of words comprising 61598 word forms that are now used for the Setswana Firefox OS predictive text. The word list includes text from a wordlist we (myself and my colleague in St Louis University, Kevin Scannell) compiled some 10 years ago. Contained in the list is also text from “Tlhalosi ya Medi ya Setswana” (the largest Setswana monolingual dictionary to date). Additional text was sourced from a 20 million-word Setswana corpus. The word list has been used to develop a spellchecker for Firefox. The spellchecker can be downloaded from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tswana-spell-checker/. This spellchecker is exclusively for Firefox. The wordlist has also been used to develop a spellchecker for LibreOffice (https://www.libreoffice.org/). LibreOffice is a free Office suit similar to Microsoft Office. The spellchecker is available here:http://extensions.libreoffice.org/…/setswana…/releases/2.0.0.
  3. [2014] I have developed the Tlatlana website found at www.tlatlana.com. This is a website that comprises book analysis to aid the education of literature, in particular, in secondary schools. Contained in this website are detailed analyses of novels, plays, poems, grammar and cultural information. The website is exclusively written in the Setswana language.
  4. [2013] I have developed the DuoChart software application as a team member of the Botswana-UPenn Partnership, the University of Botswana, the Perelman School of Medicine of Medicine. The application is a translation application that facilitates communication between health practitioners and their patients. My contribution was to contribute content and oversee the quality assurance of translations. Information and software on this project may be found here: http://duochart.com/news.html.
  5. The Translation of Google into Setswana (2009/2010). The translated version is available at www.google.co.bw and www.google.co.za.
  6. Scannell K.and Otlogetswe T.J. [2004] Setswana aspell-tn dictionary. Freely available here: http://pkgs.org/opensuse-11.4/opensuse-oss-x86_64/aspell-tn-1.0.1-24.1.x86_64.rpm.html. This is a Setswana spellchecker for the Open Office Software.
